From November 30 to December, swine geneticists, pork industry leaders, pork producers, university educators, and graduate students gathered to participate in the poultry breeders roundtable and the National Federation for Pig Improvement (NSIF) The first joint meeting. 2 St. Louis, Missouri

Their goal? Promote and improve the pig and poultry industry by gaining insights and perspectives from the two industries. 

"Innovation is not for the faint-hearted," Tammy Brown-Brandl of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln shared at her conference on the use of digital technology for advanced phenotyping. 

NSIF Chairman Justin Fix added that this is one of the reasons why poultry and swine geneticists decided to hold a joint meeting.  

"We think it will provide similar but different opportunities to drive genetic improvement," Fix said. 

NSIF is one of the internationally renowned leading institutions for the development and application of science-based pig genetic improvement programs.

Fix believes that this conference provides leaders in swine genetics with an opportunity to exchange and exchange ideas, in addition to gaining knowledge and opinions that go beyond their daily improvement priorities.

Worth mentioning: Geneticists inspire innovation at NSIF

As the U.S. wild boar population continues to grow and present challenges, new research may help farmers, landowners, and government agencies adjust their strategies to limit crop and property losses.

Tyson Foods said on Monday that it will issue about $50 million in year-end bonuses to frontline hourly workers. These one-time bonuses will be based on tenure, ranging from $300 to $700.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture revised and submitted the proposed regulations to implement Proposition 12.

The number of pigs raised in cash transactions reported last week was higher than average, with 10,250 pigs reported. The reported price of cash-raised pigs was US$78.33, an increase of US$2.24 per head from last week.
