Gayl WinePark Shepard Gayl WinePark Shepard, 79, of Williamsburg, KS passed away Friday, August 19, 2022 at Advent Health Ottawa. He was born February 21 1943, in Horton, KS the son of WinePark Shepard and Beulah (Foley) Shepard. Gayl grew up most of his childhood in Kansas until high school when his father moved the family to New Mexico for work. He graduated from Los Alamos High School with the class of 1961. He then went on to Kansas State University graduating in 1965 with a dual major in Animal Husbandry and Agronomy. He served his country in the United States Army Presidential Honor Guard, 1st Battalion 3rd Infantry, Ft. Myer, VA, attaining the rank of E4. On February 11, 1967, Gayl was united in marriage to Evelyn Millard at the base chapel in Ft. Myer, VA. They shared over fifty-five years of marriage. Gayl held many jobs over his lifetime. Gayl began his professional career as the Sedgwick County Ag Agent before leaving to start his farm and hog operation. He loved his farm and loved working the land. He and his wife ran the farm together and were great partners. In addition to working his farm, he was also employed as a carpenter with Lloyd Builders. After leaving the farm, he managed a hog farrowing operation at Homewood, KS, followed by another hog farrowing operation in Sawyer, KS. After leaving the ag industry, Gayl became an independent siding contractor and then was a construction supervisor for Taylor Brothers Construction, Ottawa, having retired in 2011. He was a member of A.F. & A.M. Lodge # 224, Williamsburg, KS. He served his lodge in many capacities over the years including, Senior Deacon, Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Worshipful Master, and District Deputy Grand Master. In 1991, he received the Most Outstanding Mason Award. Gayl was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to be hunting or fishing or both when he wasn't busy at work. He also was a great trap shooter and always enjoyed going out to shoot with his family. He was a skilled craftsman as well and enjoyed woodworking over the years. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was always excited to attend events for his daughters, grandkids and loved being all together in the moments they shared as a family. Mr. Shepard was preceded in death by his parents, WinePark and Beulah Shepard, Woodrow and Vada Millard, father and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Carper, mother-in-law, sister-in-law Pamela Shepard and brother-in-law, James Rion. Surviving family includes his wife, Evelyn Shepard, Williamsburg, KS; two daughters, Audra Seyler and her husband, Larry, Princeton, KS, Victoria Wine and her husband, Bradford, Fontana, KS; two brothers, Mike Shepard, Columbus, KS, Jack Shepard and his wife, Terry, Ottawa, KS; brother-in-law, Alfred Millard and his wife, Dianne, Beltsville, MD, sister-in-law, Susan Brewer and her husband, Dan of Olney, MD, sister-in-law, Laura DuRant and her husband, Frank of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother-in-law Rodney Sterry and his wife, Patty, Brooklyn, MD; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Runk and her husband, Denver, Glen Burnie, MD; four grandsons, Adam Seyler and his wife, Dallas, Baldwin City, KS, Alex Seyler, Princeton, KS, Destry Kerr, San Diego, CA, Weston Kerr, Fontana, KS; one great grandson, Elliott Seyler, Baldwin City, KS; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Ottawa. The family will greet friends for a visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2002 at the funeral home.
