On Monday, Will Kornegay, owner of Ripe Revival, helped distribute food boxes to different organizations. The non-profit organization identified families in need before the event. Each family gets an 18-pound turkey, a dozen eggs and a box of fresh produce from the local farm.

"It's really encouraging to see the number of people who are willing to stand up and support the community," Koneghe said.

Kornegay's mission at Ripe Revival is to help solve food waste and hunger issues. He said he was called to do this work through his Christian faith.

"We are a lamp to others, and we are exposing all the dark corners of the food system, and we want to make family members smile and show them love and being loved," Cornegue said.

The Redeemer Church in the Rocky Mountains sponsored 250 of the 900 boxes for families in need.

“We love and serve our city,” said Daniel Tripp, executive pastor of the Church of the Redeemer. "Ultimately, we do this because Christ has served us and is in need."

In order to achieve this distribution, many partners participated. Jennie O donated the turkey to Beast Philanthropy and the turkey to Ripe Revival. L&M Farms donated vegetables, Nash Farms donated sweet potatoes, Hickory Meadows Organic donated butternut squash, and Braswell Family Farms donated eggs.

Each family also receives recipe information and family activity sheets from the North Carolina Sweet Potato Council.

Boxes were distributed to families on Monday and Tuesday.
